LPCs
The local organisation for community pharmacy is the Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC). The LPC is the focus for all community pharmacists and is an independent and representative group. The LPC works locally with primary care organisations (PCOs) such as local primary care trusts and other healthcare professionals to help plan healthcare services.
The LPC negotiates and discusses pharmacy services with local health bodies and is available to give advice to community pharmacy contractors and others wanting to know more about local pharmacy. LPCs liaise closely with their medical equivalent the Local Medical Committee so that GPs and pharmacists can work together to deliver services to patients. LPCs also work closely with local dental and optical committees. To find out more about your local LPC or to discuss how, as a pharmacist, you may be able to assist or join an LPC, contact Mike King at PSNC's Aylesbury Office (01296 438405).
There are currently about 90 LPCs throughout England and Wales. Many LPCs have their own websites that can be accessed at www.lpc-online.org.uk.

LPC Members Only Section of the PSNC Website
A Members Only Section has been set up on this site for LPC Secretaries and LPC Members. The site contains a special News Section for LPC Members, downloadable copies of PSNC's internal circular to LPC Secretaries as well as resource material and useful documents. There is also a section dedicated to PSNC Events for LPC Members.
LPC Members who have not received their user name and password for the site should contact PSNC's Aylesbury Office.
LPC Websites
In October 2006, PSNC launched template LPC Websites for LPCs. The sites are now live and can be accessed via www.lpc-online.org.uk. Some LPCs are still working on their sites - but others are brimming with information and the LPCs find them a great way of keeping their contractors informed of key local news and LPC business. The sites are provided by PSNC at no charge to LPCs and we have provided full guidance and training for LPCs to set up and administer their sites. If an LPC already has an external site it wants to keep you will automatically be re-directed to the site from the LPC portal.
