The detail of the Contract
The contract is made up of three different service levels:
Essential services - provided by all contractors;
Advanced services - can be provided by all contractors once accreditation requirements have been met; and
Enhanced services - commissioned locally by Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in response to the needs of the local population.

Changes to the Pharmacy Contract in 2011/12
On 15th March 2011 NHS Employers and PSNC announced a number of service developments within the English pharmacy contract that will deliver improved outcomes for patients. The changes were implemented during 2011/12, with a start date of 1st October 2011. These changes apply to pharmacy contractors in England only.

Pharmacy Contract NHS Regulations
Implementation of the contract required new NHS Regulations to be laid. More information on the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2005 is available in the Regulations section of the website.
