Healthspace

HealthSpace is an online secure personal health organiser which is available free of charge to people living in England who are 16 or over. It supports a range of Connecting for Health's projects including Choose & Book, the Electronic Prescription Service and the NHS Care Records Service.


Healthspace & Choose & Book

Patients can already schedule and update appointments using the Choose and Book online service which can be accessed on HealthSpace.


Healthspace & the Electronic Prescription Service

In EPS Release 2, patients's will be able to nominate their preferred pharmacy to receive prescriptions electronically, from any pharmacy, any GP surgery and in time through Healthspace. Healthspace is a component of NHS.UK which allows patients to search a database of contact details for GPs, pharmacies, opticians, hospitals and other NHS organisations in England. Patients will be able to nominate pharmacies that have been flagged as being Release 2 enabled on NHS.uk.


Healthspace & the NHS Care Records Service

During 2008, HealthSpace will enable patients living in 'Early Adopter' areas for the NHS Care Records Service to view their Summary Care Record. Initially, patients will be able to view: Full demographic details that the NHS holds for them A clinical summary including current medications, adverse reactions to medications and allergies The content of the Summary Care Record will build up gradually over time.

In the long term, it is anticipated that patients will be able to add or change some information in their Summary Care Record, for example, basic demographic information and add information about preferences relating to language, diet and religion. Further information is likely to be added in the long term such as living wills, organ donor consent information and healthy living advice including NHS LifeCheck. There are extensive security procedures in place, for the initial implementation of the Summary Care Record, patients will be required to attend a local registration office to have a face to face interview and to receive a secure login card.
