Law changes to enable price lists for specials
On 19 August 2010, The Medicines for Human Use (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products and Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2010 amended the legislation to allow price lists for unlicensed medicines to be published and shared. Before this change came into effect, manufacturers of unlicensed medicines were not allowed to proactively inform pharmacy contractors of the availability of their products. This change has the potential to ease the current problems pharmacy contractors face in procuring these products by improving pharmacy contractor access to information on both the availability and cost of specials from different suppliers.
PSNC is encouraging specials manufacturers to publish price lists where practical; however, it is recognised that because of the bespoke nature of some special products, it may not be possible for all unlicensed medicines to be included in manufacturer price lists.
