Discontinuation of Freestyle Lancets 0.5mm/25 gauge
PSNC has received reports from contractors unable to obtain Freestyle lancets 0.5mm/25 gauge which are currently listed in Part IXA of the Drug Tariff. This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer Abbott Laboratories.
The product has been replaced by Freestyle Lancets 0.5mm/28 gauge, however this is not currently listed in the Drug Tariff and as such, cannot be dispensed against an NHS prescription. Abbott Laboratories have indicated that they have made an application for the 0.5mm/28 gauge product to be added to Part IX of the Drug Tariff.
At present, if a prescription is received requesting the Freestyle Lancets 0.5mm/25 gauge product and this product cannot be obtained; the prescription would have to be returned for an alternative product to be prescribed.
