Independent Prescribing of Unlicensed Medicines
Drug Tariff Part XVIIB(ii) has been amended in line with the regulations to clarify that nurse and pharmacist independent prescribers can now prescriber unlicensed medicines for their patients, on the same basis as doctors and supplementary prescribers. Optometrist prescribers continue not to be able to prescribe unlicensed medicines.
More information on the prescribing rights of different health professionals can be found in the PSNC online Drug Tariff Resource Centre.
