Novartis Supply Problems

Novartis have published the following statement on the supply of their products:

"Supply of Novartis medicines in the UK

There are currently short-term shortages of several medicines in the UK. This has occurred largely because some medicines in the UK are less expensive compared with other parts of Europe.

Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd. (Novartis) is committed to patient safety and ensuring a reliable supply of its medicines in the UK. Novartis is working with the entire supply chain (including wholesalers, pharmacy bodies, the ABPI and DH) in order to find a long-term solution.

In response to the current situation, Novartis has established a Patient Priority Supply Procedure to ensure pharmacies can always obtain the medicines that patients need, when they need it. Standard distribution of Novartis medicines will continue to be fulfilled via our wholesale partners.

The Patient Priority Supply Procedure will ensure patients receive an essential supply of medication to maintain continuity of treatment. Pharmacists who need to secure a critical supply of medicine for a patient can contact the Novartis Patient Priority Supply Line on 08457 419 442."

PSNC is committed to working with Novartis to try and find solutions that ensure patient needs are met in a timely way and to reduce the current burden on pharmacy contractors in managing supply.
